Welcome to Skyla Counselling

Are you feeling held back by patterns you understand but can’t seem to change?
You might find yourself caught in familiar ways of thinking or relating — people-pleasing, self-doubt, or feeling responsible for everything — while underneath feeling exhausted, disconnected, or overwhelmed. It can be hard to make sense of why things feel this way, especially when you’re used to coping and carrying on.
I offer a space where you can begin to understand yourself more fully and start to gently shift what feels stuck.
How I can help
I work with clients to explore what’s really going on beneath the surface, to make sense of how things got this way, and begin to move forward in a way that feels more grounded and sustainable. Together, we will look at patterns that no longer serve you so you can make clearer, more confident choices, and feel less driven by old habits. Please know you don’t need to have everything figured out before we start.
When insight hasn’t led to change
You may have had counselling before that helped you understand yourself, yet still feel stuck in the same patterns. Sometimes, insight alone isn’t enough. My approach focuses on helping you not only understand yourself, but begin to create meaningful, lasting change — at a pace that feels right for you.
When past experiences still affect the present
If past experiences or difficult events continue to shape how you feel, think, or respond, this may show up as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, or a sense of being constantly on edge.
I am trauma-trained and currently undertaking training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an approach that supports the brain to process and integrate difficult experiences. Where appropriate, this can help reduce the emotional intensity of the past, allowing you to feel less stuck and more able to move forward.
I work in a way that focuses on what feels manageable in the present, while gently making sense of the past when you’re ready.
Clients often describe this work as helping them feel steadier, more emotionally grounded, and better able to respond rather than react — with greater clarity and trust in themselves.
Working with Autism & Neurodivergence
I have a particular interest in supporting autistic and neurodivergent clients.
You may have spent much of your life masking, feeling misunderstood, or trying to meet expectations that don’t fit. I offer a space that is adapted to you — where you don’t need to mask in the same way, and where your way of experiencing the world is understood and respected.
Taking the next step
Starting counselling can feel like a big step — especially if these patterns have been part of your life for a long time, or if you’re not used to putting yourself first.
It’s completely understandable to feel unsure, or to take your time deciding.
I offer a free 15–20 minute introductory call, giving you the chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and see whether it feels like a good fit — with no pressure to commit. You’re welcome to get in touch whenever you feel ready.
